Ulm: am Schwörmontag in der Nacht / at Night on "Oath Monday"

Nach dem Nabada machen die Jungen Leute eine große Party im Stadtzentrum bei der Donau. Sie machen laute Musik, tanzen, und trinken Bier.

After the Nabada the young people throw a big party downtown near the Danube River. They play loud music, dance, and drink beer.

Ulm: das Nabada am Schwörmontag / the Nabada on Schwörmontag

Das Nabada ist eine Art Karneval auf der Donau am Nachmittag des Schwörmontags. Es gibt viele offiziellen Themenbooten und Booten und Flößen, die die Leute selbst machen. Natürlich habe ich in diesem Fest teilgenommen. Die Donau war gar nicht tief!

The Nabada is a sort of festival on the Danube in the afternoon on "Oath Monday." There are many official theme boats as well as self-made boats and rafts. I participated in this event with friends from my Summer Program. The Danube wasn't deep at all!

Der Bürgmeister spricht / The Mayor's Speech

Der Schwörmontag ist ein traditioneller Ulmer Feiertag jedes Jahr am vorletzten Montag im Juli. Am diesem Montag spricht der Bürgmeister vom Schwörbalkon des Ulmer Schwörhauses und schwört und verspricht, dass er für die Prosperität der Stadt arbeitet. Niemand arbeitet am Schwörmontag, und es gibt viele Feste wie zum Beispiel das Nabada und die Lichterserenade.

Schwörmontag (literally "Swear or Oath Monday") is a traditional folk festival unique to the city of Ulm. It is held on the second to the last Monday of July each year. On this day the mayor of Ulm speaks from the "Oath Balcony" of the "Ulm Oath House." He promises the wellbeing of the citizens and makes an oath that he will work for the their prosperity. Nobody works on this day, and there are many festivals in the town including the "Nabada" and the "Light Serenade."
